Are you a current or aspiring health system executive:
- Looking to enhance your ability to adapt to health care crises and economic and competitive pressures?
- Who is a former clinician needing to develop ESG-focused business acumen as you transition to administrative roles?
- Looking to improve your ability to understand, cooperate and align with colleagues from other departments?
- Seeking executive training solutions that are flexible, engaging and impactful?
If so, then read on...
For the first time, HFX is offering its unique simulation-based executive training directly to healthcare executives. Based on our tried and tested hospital management simulation, Healthcare Hero (already used to great effect on leading academic healthcare management programs), our Applied Strategic Healthcare Management Course is designed to improve your:
- Business acumen
- Confidence with ESG-driven management
- Decision-making skills in the face of healthcare and economic crises
- Ability to cooperate and collaborate with different departments
What to Expect:
The course, based on our Healthcare Hero simulation, puts you at the helm of one of many fictional hospitals. Over eight rounds – with each round representing a quarter of business operations – you must make strategic decisions about how to best serve patients whilst managing hospital staffing, capacity, quality and financing requirements, in the face of an uncertain environment. The aim of the simulation is to outperform the competing hospitals managed by other participants in the course, whilst navigating healthcare and economic crises and satisfying the needs of multiple stakeholders.
With supporting group and one-to-one calls, we guide you through the simulation, but the more time and energy you put into planning your decisions and analysing outcomes, the more you will get out of the course!
The most successful participants may spend upwards of two hours on each round of the simulation, in addition to the time required to read and analyse the case study, participate in the instructional calls and conduct a post-mortem on your performance in the simulation!
After successful completion of the course you will obtain a certificate of completion worth 40 hours of Continuing Professional Development / Education (CPD/CPE) credits.
Feedback:
Daan Westra PhD, Healthcare Management Professor, Maastricht University
I absolutely love the simulation. The cohort’s Whatsapp group started buzzing during the practice round phase, and we quickly realized that both participants and instructors loved this teaching approach.
Ultimately, using the simulation makes the learning process fun, almost addictive. It helps bring leadership, strategic and financial concepts to life for both students and experienced practitioners.
Felipe Spinelli DBA, Director of Education, Hospital Albert Einstein
This program helps our current and future executives to understand how strategic decisions made in one functional area impacts all others, as well as the outcomes to the organisation as a whole. This is especially important in the context of hospital management, where we have many people that have transitioned into administrative and leadership positions from clinical roles.
Course Structure:
The course has 3 phases:
Phase 1: Study
After purchasing the course, you will have immediate access to the instructional materials and be set up with your login credentials for the simulation portal at www.simulationportal.com where you will access the game itself.
The course will start with an introductory zoom session, where you will meet the instructor and other participants in the course. We suggest that you attempt to submit decisions for the first practice round before this session, so we can help you troubleshoot any issues or answer any immediate questions that you have.
The game is COMPLEX. Therefore, we suggest that you spend at least two to four hours studying the manual, taking notes and planning your approach to the game. The participants that work the hardest generally run their hospitals more successfully, just like in real life!
Phase 2: Play
After the three practice rounds, the simulation will be ‘zeroed’, and there will be a second zoom call. In this call, we will answer any remaining doubts about the gameplay, and decision submission process, and the game will then start in earnest.
From this point, you will be directly competing against the other fictional hospitals in the simulation game - it will be a test of your decision making skills in a pressurised environment.
You will need to spend time assessing your performance after each round, and making adjustments to your decisions in order to keep your hospital running smoothly and successfully.
At the conclusion of the simulation, the winning participant will be revealed!
Phase 3: Feedback
Finally, each participant will spend time assessing:
- Where they did poorly
- Where they did well
- Who was their strongest competitor, and why
- How they would change their approach if they went through the simulation again
- How they can apply what they learned from the training program to their current roles
We suggest that you keep notes regarding your decision-making process for each round of the simulation. These then become discussion points in the wrap-up call at the end of the simulation.
After successful completion of the course you will obtain a certificate of completion worth 40 hours of Continuing Professional Development / Education (CPD/CPE) credits.
